Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will hold a public awareness event on Thursday, September 10, 2026, as part of World Alzheimer’s Month, with a focus on the importance of early diagnosis, brain health and support for people living with dementia.
The event will take place at Al Rumailah Hospital from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, giving members of the public an opportunity to meet HMC’s multidisciplinary dementia care team and learn more about the services available for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
Focus on Early Diagnosis and Brain Health
This year’s campaign is being held under the global theme:
“The Earlier You Know, The More You Can Do: A Dementia Diagnosis Matters.”
Information stands at the event will provide guidance on dementia, brain health, early diagnosis and potentially modifiable risk factors. HMC specialists will also be available to answer questions from patients, families and members of the public.
A separate public exhibition will also be held on September 21, coinciding with World Alzheimer’s Day.
HMC Highlights Memory Clinic Services
HMC’s Memory Clinics provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and care for people experiencing memory changes or symptoms associated with dementia.
Assessments can include both medical and cognitive evaluations, along with further investigations aimed at identifying the possible cause of symptoms and developing an appropriate care plan for each patient.
Early Assessment Can Help Patients and Families
Professor Hanadi Al Hamad, Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Long-Term Care, Rehabilitation and Geriatrics and Medical Director of Rumailah Hospital, stressed the importance of early diagnosis.
She said identifying dementia as early as possible can help ensure that patients and their families receive suitable assessment, care and support in a timely manner.
Professor Al Hamad also highlighted the importance of maintaining brain health and addressing factors that may be modified to help reduce dementia risk and support cognitive function and independence for as long as possible.
Advanced Treatments Considered for Selected Patients
HMC said that, where clinically appropriate, advanced biological investigations and disease-modifying biological treatments may be considered for carefully selected patients.
Such options are considered only after specialist assessment and an individual evaluation of the potential risks and benefits, as well as confirmation that the patient meets established eligibility criteria.
